The 50 strong field were treated to bright but frosty conditions for the annual Invicta Trial. In the main surface conditions deteriorated as the frost came out of the ground and this was to the advantage of the riders who set the quicker pace through the sections.

Leading the way on the hard-route was GasGas mounted Adam Brown, who dropped a meagre 26, 18 of which were on the very challenging 4th section. Adam’s nearest competitor was Oliver Wareing, with a respectable score of 35. Top Intermediate on the day was Rob Margetts on 47, but it was a close run thing as 2nd Intermediate Paul Wareing was only one clean behind.

Riding at his usual lightning pace Andy Butt showed how it should be done on the Middle Route, taking his Montesa to an emphatic win, losing just 9 marks. Graham Swaby was the nearest Andy had to a rival, dropping 16 marks, 12 of these were on section 2. In a tightly fought battle for the title of best Novice, Keith Radley came of best with the loss of 51. This was only just enough for him to win as the top 5 Novices were only separated by 5 marks.

The top two riders on the easy route were only separated by one clean, but it was Bryan Devereux who came off best, taking his Fantic to the top-spot on 23 marks. In second place, but the best pre-65, was Shaun Brown. It was another Devereux in third, this time Bob, who took the Youth Beginner title and was just ahead of Paul Hedison who was the best Adult Beginner on the day.
