With the new Championship Rules and format still very much the hot topic on the TC Forums, for those that don't read them popular Brit contender, Alexz Wigg offers his opinion..

I've read the article and can see nearly all points of view, so after experiencing the rules first hand, I thought my opinion might be of some interest...

Whilst I understand the rules may be confusing at first, once you look into it its actually pretty simple. Sheffield was a bit of a one off. It was the first event using the new format and like anything new, there is going to be teething problems...

We had Dibs on the podium for the first time in his career so this is great to have some new blood coming through and rattling the top boys.

The scores carried over from TX2 to TX3 (which is now called semi final and final) A LOT EASIER! Dibs beat Raga fair and square over 6 sections.
There were then some changes to the rules for Marseille to improve the trial.
Once again there was qualification round which i just about scraped through to get in to the main event.

The bottom 4 riders from qualifying went into the last chance which consisted of 2 sections and a double lane race.

Everybody's started clean. Dibs and myself qualified on 3 points a piece while Fuji finished on 4 and Gubian 10.

It may not seem fair that Fuji went out after beating us clearly in the qualification round but thats the rules, he knew them as well as we did and when given the chance Dibs and we took it.

No one used complain when the rules were like they were, if someone was best in the qualification round and then finished 4th in the final, was that unfair? why didn't anyone say anything then? Its just the same as the case with Fuji and myself. He beat me in the qualification and i beat him in the last chance.

I understand that the public wants to watch the best riders and would be disappointed if they went out early but sport would be boring if it didnt spring suprises...

I personally like the rules as they are. I admit they they helped me on Saturday night so I'm not going to complain. The further i got, the more experience I gained and at this level, especially with the indoors, it's invaluble. The top guys have been doing it for years and the Spanish have their own championship so why is it such a bad this to give the newcomers more of a chance to get in the mix?

I would prefer 2 laps with every rider attempting every section and carrying the scores because i would gain even more experience but this isn't possible unless you want the same 4 riders like a travelling circus?
The format is also being used to fit into TV times. This is definitely a positive point, as really how else are we expecting our sport to grow? We need to give it as much coverage as we can!

Thats just my opinion and hopefully haven't upset anyone too much.

Yours in Trials,

Alexz

Some very valid points indeed and great to hear things from the other side of the fence. Thanks to Wiggy for taking the time out to contribute :-)
