World Junior Champion Alexz Wigg (JLI Top Trial Team Beta) has had a tough time in his first two Indoor world Championship events in Sheffield and Marseille.
Sheffield was disappointing for Wiggy as he had an unusual throttle cable problem which gave him a 5 in the very first section and despite his best efforts did not qualify for the last 8. However his riding was not that bad compared to the other riders at the bottom end and with a couple of steady rides the experience was good and one championship point!
The second round held in Marseille was turning out to be a similar thing as riding in the qualification lap Alexz did not perform that well losing a fair few marks, but he qualified this time and went to the last chance alongside Dibs, Fuji and Gubian. Riding with Dibs in the race he managed to win here which helped his confidence in the two deciding sections Dropping 1 in each zone and one on time Wiggy was on 3 as was dibs who would go through as he cleaned one section more. This left Fuji and Loris who was on 10 fiving both sections and Fuji was last to go. Alexz was back in the “paddock” with helmet off assuming Fuji would go clean but a mistake left him on four and Wiggy was through to the last 6!
“Without doubt the format has helped me, but it is the rules we have so I’m just getting on with it” said Wiggy.
Unable to make much headway in the semi-final, Alexz was eliminated from the final four behind Dibs saying “I had a good go at the sections and apart from the race with Tony Bou and crashing felt it went well”.
Alexz continues his winter training in Italy this week in readiness for next week’s round 3 in Barcelona.
