Toni Bou (Montesa Cota 4RT) finished second in the Marseille Indoor Trial, second scoring event of the Indoor Trial World Championship. The Montesa rider put up an exciting struggle for victory, which was only decided at the last moment. Bou and the future winner had finished the four zones of the semi-final with 5 points each, a tie they maintained until the current world champion got one penalty point in the fourth and final zone.
Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa Cota 4RT) obtained the fifth best score (9 points, 3 more than his teammate Toni Bou) of the eight riders in the qualifying lap, but in the play-off zone to access the semi-final, he made a mistake and was eliminated.
Toni Bou: “I didn’t feel very comfortable in these zones. Nevertheless, I fought up to the last moment, but made a mistake that was definitive, as I had no chance to make up for it. I’m not satisfied, I compete to win and finishing second is just not good enough”.
Takahisa Fujinami: “I didn’t pass the qualifying lap for the second time. I’m still convinced that the new regulations had a negative influence on my result in the Sheffield indoor, but here in Marseille I admit it was my fault”. |
